The 1st Learning Exchange Meeting in the context of the FYS-Forums project was held in Rome, Italy, during the 22nd – 26th of February 2016. During this meeting teachers from UK, Italy, Lithuania, and Cyprus had the opportunity to meet with the FYS-Forums project partners and discuss about the development of the project, exchanging experiences and ideas, and sharing the already produced draft youth forum tools.
The purpose of this meeting was to gain feedback from hub school teachers on the tools to better refine them for their needs, induct the teachers in using the tools, and share the learning from the data of the National Needs Analysis and the Monitoring and Evaluation tools developed for teachers to use with pupils and other teachers.
During the meeting teachers analysed the opportunities and blocks that exist within their schools and had the opportunity to think critically about potentials to implement Youth Participation through Global Citizenship into their teaching. Also teachers discussed about “youth at risk”, trying to define what each school and education system does for those students who are vulnerable to failing in school, exploring schools’ good practices to tackle this issue.
This learning exchange meeting was a great opportunity for teachers across different schools to build relationships and share experiences. This was also important for the desired impact and long term sustainability of the project, since relationships formed at this training will help create the building blocks for this.
