Activities to run in the whole school before the Forum

“Knowledge is power.
Information is liberating.
Education is the premise of progress, in every society, in every family” Kofi Annan – former Secretary General of the United Nations

Even if only some of your schools' students will be directly involved in the Youth Forum, it is important to raise awareness in the whole school about the topic and the activities taking place in school.

What can you use to let all your students know more about the topic of the Forum?

Promote these activities in school 4-6 weeks before the Forum takes place depending on the length of time the activities below take.

  • Whole School Presentation for an assembly / gathering

Provides a general overview of the issue the Forum will focus on which should be shown to the whole school to raise general awareness of the Forum. It should last about 10-15 mins and it can be delivered both by teachers or students.

  • Whole School Classroom Activities

Should be delivered by all teachers to all students in all schools participating in the Forum to provide basic understanding of the theme of the Forum and enable students to participate and take an informed action following it. These are six 15-20 minute activities written as lesson plans for teachers with a corresponding workbook.

  • Treasure Hunt in School

Provides 10-15 images which can be printed and displayed around the school with corresponding captions and questions for students to answers. This will also relate to the theme of the Forum to raise general awareness of the issue amongst the whole school.
